Social Responsibility

Giving Back to Society

The bank has in place a corporate policy governing its donations and sponsorships programmes. The donations policy is presently tilted in favour of the education and the health sectors though we do also contribute to other socio-cultural sub-sectors on a case by case basis. In the past few years, the bank has conscientiously discharged its corporate social responsibility by making donations in cash and in kind to beneficiary institutions of diverse backgrounds. Major beneficiaries have included the state-owned tertiary institutions and the cardio unit of Korle-bu. As a matter of interest the bulk of our donations totaling some GH˘70,000 in 2006 went to all 5 public universities in Ghana and the cardio centre.

For the year 2007, TTB set aside an amount of GH˘129,443 for corporate donations and event sponsorships, almost double the previous years’. The remarkable feature about the 2007 donations is that the bulk of the amount was to cater for the needs of deprived public basic educational institutions selected from Accra, Kumasi, Tema and Kasoa.

To Whom Much is Given, of Him Much is Expected!

Since incorporation, The Trust Bank has recognised with great enthusiasm the need to give back to society in pursuit of its social responsibility. The 2004 financial year has not been an exception. As in previous years, the Bank has lived up to its corporate social responsibility in its key support programme areas of education, health, sports and socio-cultural development.

More than ˘400 million, was donated to various charitable organisations, ventures and projects. As a corporate policy, TTB does not contribute to the needs of profit making organisations. The bulk of the Bank's social contributions therefore went to charities, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Medical and Educational Institutions, and other social upliftment efforts.

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Various educational institutions benefitted from a total amount of ˘170m. The beneficiary educational institutions used the donations for equipment (mostly computers, printers and accessories), library restocking, renovation works and training.

GENERAL SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT

About ˘81m went into the support of social and community works conceptualised, initiated and sponsored by NGOs and voluntary organisations throughout the country. The results and benefits of some of these projects to the needy in society have been quite fulfilling, and provide the impetus to continue offering further support.

TTB also contributed to the upliftment of needy children in foster homes, and the under-priveliged in society. Currently, the Bank supports the educational needs of children of selected orphanages and schools for children with special needs.

HEALTH
A total of about ˘70m was spent in this sector covering teaching aids for the training of various levels of health professionals, the Ghana Heart Foundation, and HIV/AIDS programmes.

The Bank also supported the continuous professional development of junior medical doctors as well as other professionals.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
Various sporting activities have been supported country-wide. A total of ˘80m was expended in the area of development programmes, sponsorship and co-sponsor-ship of sports competitions in the country.

The Trust Bank is passionate about uplifting the development of the so-called ‘lesser-known sports’. In this direction, the Bank adopted the game of tennis - especially at the juvenile level - for development. TTB also sponsored a tennis tournament between the Accra Lawn Tennis Club, and the Ikoyi Club of Lagos, Nigeria. To help unearth fresh tennis talents, TTB single-handedly sponsored the ‘Under-18 Top-8 Tennis Championship 2004’.

These donations reflect the Bank’s passionate drive to building a nation of proud Ghanaian Champions in all fields of endeavour.
